Mission Statement

The mission of the First Baptist Church of North Oxford, Massachusetts, and the Jack & Jill Preschool is, in ways consistent with Biblical teachings, to provide for the needs of children and their families, a safe, fun, loving, learning environment in which they can feel valued and respected.

The preschool is operated as a community outreach program and we are dedicated to serve as a resource for the children's families in Oxford and the surrounding communities.  We offer assistance and information to all in need.  We have scholarships available through fundraising as well as through our affiliation with the Oxford Community Partnership for Children.

Philosophy of Education

We believe that the children are the heart of our program.  We believe that children need, expect, and deserve to be guided in ways that will help their world be safe, interesting, stimulating, inviting, and friendly.

We believe in a child's individuality and the developmental needs of the whole child.  Our belief is that children can learn best about themselves and their world by following, at their own rate, their natural curiosity and desire to learn.  We also believe that children learn from exploration and experimentation, so we provide access to materials and activities, which help each child develop to his/her highest potential.  Our staff is prepared to meet the individual needs of your child by role modeling appropriate behavior, observing with care, and responding quickly with respect and affection.  We help children extend their learning by showing interest in their play, making suggestions, adding new materials, or asking questions to stimulate new ideas.  Since "total development" involves cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development, our program has been tailored to foster each child's growth in these five areas.  We celebrate children's new discoveries and skills.

It is our belief that the successful education of a child relies more on the process of learning than the end result product.  Jack & Jill provides a strong focus and concern for the child's feelings of self-worth as a person.  Peer interaction, development of self-respect and self-control, development of friendships based on mutual caring and respect, as well as development of self-awareness as a valued member of the group are some of our ultimate goals for each child's social growth.

We realize that parenting is a complex and lifelong occupation, so we strive to work cooperatively to meet diverse family needs and to be supportive of families.  We emphasize mutual trust, open communication, and encourage parental involvement at our center.
